Tempe is located near the center of Arizona. Tempe is part of the greater Phoenix metropolitan area. Tempe has some of the best public transportation in the state. The official population is 175,000 when university is in session the population swells to about 225,000 due to the presence of Arizona State University. ASU is one of the top 5 public universities when measured by population. With such a large collegiate presence, Tempe has no shortage of coffee houses and bars.
